However, this will be done in February , so you do have time to study for your exam and pass it before then. I would suggest you attempt to pass it some time in late December or early January. You should have enough time to prepare until then, of course depending on the amount of time you have on your hands.
I would urge you to attempt the exam before the change. The reason is because the study content available, including that on NetworkLessons, is specifically geared towards preparin. Hello everybody, I just passed my exam icnd2 and I want to thank you for all the help you have given.

Please keep us posted of your progress and any futher questions you may have along the way toward your CCENT. Personally im really glad I made the lab, there are a ton of things a simulator cannot simulate. For instance, I had this constant log message popping up every second and after a quick Google search it was the serial module not inserted correctly.
How cool is that! If you have a solid general networking background, you can do it in 6 weeks. If you are somewhat new, I would budget 3 months as suggested above. I also do agree with James that a lab will really help.
You can get ideas on them by simply googling ccna kit and you will see vendors pop up. I also suggest that you have some sort of practice exam program. Those are very helpful to guage your readiness. Since you have some basic experience I would say that between 2 to 4 months of study should be more than enough to get you certified.
You don't need to know much about executing the commands or implementation for ICND1. But move to ICND2 and you'll definitely need to know the command language and syntax. You'll need to know these topics much more in depth than for ICND1.
You'll need to be much more analytical and be able to troubleshoot network connectivity. You'll need to be able to determine traffic flow and packet behavior. The CCNA is a difficult exam. It shouldn't be taken lightly. The worst thing I've seen people do with exams like Cisco or Microsoft is assume that because they work with the equipment on a daily basis that they don't need to study or only need to study lightly.
I've seen firsthand how that's not the case. I agree that the Odom books are excellent, I'd also strongly recommend GNS3 and Packet Tracer, but I'd also recommend a real switch or router if you can get your hands on one, just to get a feel for the physical component.
I studied for the CCNA for about 5 months at 2 hours a day. But what is more important is get real gear to work on..
