What is akonadi

Baloo is another KDE desktop search and indexing daemon. Baloo appears to be a replacement for Strigi in Fedora 20, and performs the same function of locating files and data embedded in files.

Baloo is not available prior to Fedora Disabling these services is fairly easy and much of the work can be accomplished using the System Settings. Note that these steps must be performed for each user on the host. There is no global configuration for these services. Nepomuk and Strigi can be configured or disabled using either the GUI Systems Settings app or directly in the Nepomuk configuration file.

It provides unique desktop-wide object identification and retrieval. Akonadi framework provides two parts: the server, and client libraries to access the data managed by the server.

Running the resource process in the terminal By default the resource processes are started by the Akonadi server in the background. To run the resource process interactively: Learn the resource identifier use the ps command above. Kill the resource process. This needs to be done a few times as Akonadi will initially try to restart the resource.

Warning, if you have several instances of the Exchange resource several accounts this command will terminate all of them. I get an extra window that says "Akonadi Server self-test", and if I close it, it kills Kmail What consequences if I remove it?
